CERRITOS, Calif. -- American Isuzu Motors Inc. announces its 2002 NPR GAS and NPR-HD GAS models. These vehicles are ideal for a multitude of urban delivery applications such as construction, food service, mechanical contracting, vending and other uses that demand maneuverability. Assembled in the United States, the Isuzu NPR GAS and NPR HD GAS are low cab forward trucks with gas-powered engines. The NPR GAS and HD GAS are equipped with a domestically sourced 5.7-liter V8 engine that delivers 250-hp. @ 4200 rpm and 330ft-lbs. torque @ 2800 rpm. Decreased emissions, less noise and improved fuel economy are the results of engine features which include sequential port fuel injection for precise fuel delivery, mass-air-flow metering, linear EGR valves and roller lifters. An engine oil cooler is standard for optimal cooling and durability. Both the NPR GAS and HD GAS are equipped with a 4L80-E Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission with fourth-gear lock-up converter and overdrive for easy shifting, long life, low maintenance, excellent drivability and optimal fuel economy. For 2002, the NPR GAS has a new higher GVW rating of 12,000 lbs. with a payload capacity ranging from 6,865-7,041 lbs., while the HD GAS is rated at 14,050 lbs. with a payload capacity of 8,770-8,946 lbs. With wheelbases of 109", 132.5", 150" and 176", both models accommodate bodies ranging from 12-20 ft. The NPR GAS and NPR-HD GAS come with a standard 30-gallon fuel tank that is mounted between the frame rails in order to enhance safety while providing easy installation for vocational bodies. Like all N-Series trucks, the NPR GAS and NPR HD GAS feature Isuzu's low cab forward cab design intended to enhance visibility, maneuverability, efficiency, safety and driver comfort. Power windows and door locks are a new feature (optional) for N-Series models for 2002. The larger windshield and side windows give the driver better visibility for safer vehicle operation. Design characteristics of the Isuzu low cab forward truck provide more cargo space within a given overall chassis length. This design facilitates shorter turning diameters, which are ideal for congested loading areas. The cab tilts 45 degrees to allow easy access to the engine area for service. This complete access allows quicker and easier servicing, which translates into lower maintenance costs. For quick inspection and service, the hydraulic brake fluid reservoir is located at the left end of the dash. Fuses and electrical relays are readily accessible in the central dash and glove box area. For easy fill-ups, the windshield washer bottle is located on the passenger side at the end of the dashboard. Like all 2002 NPR cab-over-engine models, the NPR GAS and NPR HD GAS offer important safety and comfort benefits. Daytime running lights and anti-lock brakes (ABS), both standard on all Isuzu N- and Isuzu F-Series models, contribute to the safe operation of the vehicle. Cornering lights also improve nighttime visibility when the turn signals are operated and the headlights are on. Mirrors are positioned to improve driver line-of-sight. The fuel tank is positioned inside the frame rails of the vehicle to provide a greater measure of overall safety. A standard two-way roof ventilator lets fresh air into the cab and evacuates stale cab air. Frequently used switches are designed for easy operation and illuminated for operation at night. Also, non-slip entry step, grab handles and a 90-degree door opening provide safety and comfort. An anti-corrosion treatment applied to the cab ensures longer service life. This treatment consists of the extensive use of galvanized steel panels. The cab receives an electrodeposit primer "E-coat" and a strong alkali-proof paint for full protection. Plastic liners in wheel wells further protect the cab from road spray and rock chipping. The NPR GAS and HD GAS complete a full-line of Class 3-7 commercial vehicles with GVW ratings ranging from 12,000-33,000 lbs. and various body sizes from 12-28 ft.
